"Getting disability payments can be a fight to the death. Portland’s Social Security office has some of the nation’s longest delays for benefits, and in the years-long waits, some die before seeing a dime" — The Oregonian, Sunday, August 3, 2008
Unfortunately, you have not really experienced bureaucratic delay until you have worked with the Social Security Administration, the Social Security Administration's administrative law judges and the Social Security Administration's appeals counsel in Virginia. Delays are so long they are well-known around the nation, and covered at length by shocked reporters, one of which is quoted above.
You have the right to Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits when you are disabled. At the law offices of Richard A. Sly, Attorney at Law, we are committed to uncovering the inefficiencies and delays at Social Security Administration unacceptable. We have spent over 30 years practicing Social Security law, helping Portland-area residents receive the benefits they deserve, and developing ways to speed the process.
Speeding Up the Delays
Are you concerned over current or possible delays in the processing of your Social Security claim or appeal? Contact Social Security lawyer Richard Sly for answers and legal representation. Call 503-224-0436 or contact us online.
How Long Will My Case Take?
When filing and appealing a Social Security claim, the initial application process usually lasts at least six months. If your initial claim is denied, the reconsideration phase generally takes another four to six months, and the wait to present a case to an administrative judge takes another 18 to 24 months. Appealing to a district court takes even more time.
We can work to intervene in the appeals process. By working with a Social Security screener, we can request an exception so that your case can be heard early. We can also fully prepare your case and present a "humanized" picture to strengthen your case and the possibility that benefits will be granted.
